Industrial Charm Wedding in Portland, Maine

We were so excited when Katie asked us to coordinate her wedding. We absolutely love working at Brick South, located at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. The blank slate of an empty warehouse like Brick South truly allows all of the uniquely talented wedding vendors to shine!

The folks at Brick South describe their event space in Portland as a strikingly different kind of event space, and we couldn’t agree more. Reclaimed from an obvious industrial past, the Brick South interior is a magical combination or rough hewn wood and steel beams, warm brick walls, and cool concrete floors. For a wedding planner who LOVES having bringing a couple’s vision to life from a blank slate, the freedom this industrial warehouse provides is unparalleled.

If your dream wedding in Maine has an industrial aesthetic, look no further than the space at Brick South in Portland, Maine.

For Katie and Christian’s summer wedding at Brick South, the team at Ocean Sound and Lighting did an amazing job highlighting the venue and design features of this wedding.  Sarah from Garden Gate Lettering did what she did best: a stunning itinerary chalkboard and gorgeous escort cards.  And Emily Carter softened the space with her amazing floral design. The couple’s color scheme was soft, feminine, and airy; a stunning contrast to the warehouse’s interior. The bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses that complemented the color palette: one in a soft blush bridesmaid dress, the other in a pale sage floral dress.

While Brick South offers a fully blank slate in terms of design direction (a couple could easily go all in on the industrial vibe), we love that this wedding used soft colors and textures to help balance the aesthetic.

We’ll share a few of our favorite images from Natalya DeSena below so you can see for yourself, and then jump into a fun Q&A with the bride, Katie.

Q&A with the Bride Katie

1. How did you and your husband meet?

Christian and I met while attending University of Maine at Orono in 2007.  We shared a class together his senior year. I remember that first day like it was yesterday.  I walked into class and I had an immediate reaction towards him. I was way too shy to strike up a conversation or even make eye contact.  Fast forward several weeks, I ran into him at a Orono staple, Ushuaia's. To my surprise we hit it off! However, he was about to graduate college and I still had a year left so we kept it casual and low key.  Things started to fizzle out that fall but, we kept in contact with one another sporadically over the years. I always thought he was my "one that got away."

In 2012, Christian found out that I was living in Boston and we decided to meet up for a drink. We started dating quickly after that meet up.  This time around things between us were a lot more serious than college. We spent two years in a long distance relationship while he was in Portland.  Four years ago we decided to move in together and that is when I moved to Portland. Almost one year ago, we were out walking our dog when he proposed. We got married on July 28, 2018 and he finally became "my one" forever.

2. What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?

It is really hard to choose my favorite part of our wedding because everything was perfect.  I absolutely loved the setting of our ceremony and being able to share our love with our closest and sincerest family and friends.

3. What is your favorite part of having a wedding coordinator?

Having a day of coordinator allowed me to put my total trust in a team where I did not have to worry about any logistics, concerns, hiccups, etc. for that day.  And that's exactly what happened. The Pinch Me Planning team was very professional, but very down to earth at the same time. They made everything run seamless.  I am forever appreciative of all of the hard hard they put into that day.
